It was mid-March. A blanket of snow had just fallen the night before. I woke up energized, feeling inspired, determined to make the best out of possibly the last snowfall of the season. The wind was howling outside and I saw the sun shining through my curtains. I envisioned a dramatic, windy winter portrait session.

I called my friend Krystal to ask if she would model for me. After sharing my inspiration with her, of course she was willing to help me achieve my vision. I grabbed my camera and lenses and met her that afternoon at her place to pick out an outfit. She found a long, floral dress in her closet and I immediately knew it would make for beautiful portraits, paired with her pink cardigan. She did her hair and some light makeup and we drove to the Crossings of Colonie for the portrait session.

It was a beautiful day, with clear baby blue skies and just the right amount of wind. The snow was still mostly untouched! We walked along the path by the snowy knolls and stopped occasionally to take pictures. Some shots were candid, and others were posed. I took photos of her walking over the glossy snow, clutching her dress as the wind tried to rip it from her hand. A few times, we had to hop over a small snowbank or two in order to get in position, but every bit of snow in our shoes was worth it! The winter frolicking made for cute candids!

We took a series of photos in different settings throughout the park, from top-of-the-world looking hills, to the shade beneath evergreens, which cast intricate shadows on her face. Check out the photo gallery below!
