When you first contact me, you may be nervous about what to expect. Maybe you’re camera shy, or have never worked with a photographer before! No need to stress, here’s a cheat sheet for what to expect and some things to consider when booking your consultation with your photographer!
When we talk, we will have a relaxed, professional conversation. During your first consultation I will ask questions to better understand what you are looking for in your photos and experience, including:
The details of the shoot itself:
- Are you looking for wedding photography services? Corporate or other live event photos? Portraits (if so, how many people)? Images for marketing? Or a mix of the above?
- Do you have a date set?
- Where would you like these photos taken?
- How long should your shoot be?

What “vibe” are you hoping these photos will convey?
I want to understand the mood or vibe that you hope to capture in the images, and make sure that it corresponds with my style. To help you prepare for questions like this during your consultation, it’s a good idea to at least take a brief look at a photographer’s portfolio or social media to get a sense of their general style. Make sure to show or send your photographer any “inspo” pictures you may have during the consultation and between the consult and the shoot to set a clear idea of what you are hoping your photos will achieve!

Where and how do you plan to use the photos?
- Will you be enjoying these images digitally or via prints? Or both!
- Will they be used for commercial purposes such as for your website or for press-related purposes?
- Will the images be used on social media?

Understanding your goals for your session and setting clear expectations for your shoot will guarantee your vision is achieved!
